Dr. Miller is a native Californian. After growing up in the Los Angeles area, he completed his college years at UC San Diego John Muir College, and received his medical degree and master’s degree in Public Health from UCLA. He completed his internship and residency at Children’s Hospital in Oakland, CA.
After practicing pediatrics in Marin County, he moved to San Diego in 1995, where he began working as a physician and pediatric director in the community clinic network, most recently at North County Health Services. Dr. Miller joined CPMG in 2011, and currently takes care of kids in the brand new Sanford Children’s Clinic in Oceanside. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Miller is also the Medical Director of Reach Out and Read San Diego. This is the local version of a successful national program that encourages a love of reading in children from an early age through their pediatricians, providing books to children and reading advice at well-child visits. Dr. Miller is a strong advocate for children’s issues, and has been an officer for the American Academy of Pediatrics locally (San Diego) and statewide (California).
Dr. Miller is a lifelong baseball fan – which includes playing, coaching, collecting baseball cards, attending games in whatever city he has lived, rooting for the Dodgers, and studying baseball history. Dr. Miller also enjoys speaking Spanish (always learning more), having spent time in Costa Rica as an exchange student while in graduate school. Dr. Miller’s passion for working with children stems from his many years working at a summer camp – as a counselor, administrator and music director, where he was a song leader and directed a number of musicals. He still volunteers as a camp physician at that summer camp – where he met his wife and where his daughters attend each summer as well.
“You never know when you touch the life of a child.”
“Every child deserves a quality “medical home.”
“It is always important to look at the world through the eyes of a child.”
Theses are some of the themes that help Dr. Miller as an advocate for children, to enjoy pediatrics, and to engage with families and children of all ages.
