There are pediatricians and then there are the best pediatricians in San Diego. CPMG is proud to be firmly rooted in the latter category. We have the same focus as you do at the forefront of our mind at the end of the day: a happy and healthy child.

When should you consult a San Diego pediatrician?

Most hospitals will inquire of you if you already have a San Diego pediatrician when you are first admitted to deliver your baby. In fact, your baby’s first examination will be with either a hospital pediatrician or your chosen San Diego pediatrician. This will usually depend on hospital policy and whether the particular San Diego pediatrician you have chosen actually makes rounds at the hospital where you deliver your baby. If a hospital pediatrician is the one to examine your baby, they will provide your chosen pediatrician in San Diego with the records from these hospital examinations.

After you leave the hospital, your chosen San Diego pediatrician will see your baby between 48 to 72 hours following your discharge from the hospital.

So what do pediatricians in San Diego do for you and your family? A good pediatrician will see your child many times from their birth to age 2 and then annually from age 2 to age 5 for what are known as “well-child visits.” After the age of 5, your San Diego pediatrician will most likely continue to see your child for annual check-ups. Your pediatrician in San Diego is also the first person you should call whenever your child is sick and you’re unsure of treatment or diagnosis. Your pediatrician will be your dedicated parenting partner.

As her pediatric training and experience has prepared her, your San Diego pediatrician will:

  • Administer physical examinations knowing thoroughly each stage of child development and your child’s history
  • Ensure that your child has his recommended immunizations
  • Ensure that your child is in line with recognized developmental milestones in growth, behavior, and skills
  • Diagnose and treat your child’s illnesses, infections, injuries, and any other health problems specific to children that may occur
  • Always keep you, the parent, aware with up-to-date information regarding your child’s health, safety, nutrition, and fitness needs
  • Always be on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding your child’s growth and development
  • Will refer to (and work together with), relevant specialists if your child needs care that is beyond the San Diego pediatrician’s area of expertise.

Why Do You Need a Pediatrician? Doesn’t a Family Physician Do the Same Thing?

Family physicians may also provide routine health care for children, but many parents choose a pediatrician who is a specialist in San Diego in the desired area of child health care. Following are some reasons parents commonly choose a San Diego pediatrician:

  • The best pediatricians in San Diego have received specialized training in the physical, emotional, and behavioral needs of children.
  • If your child was born early or maybe has a health condition that needs close monitoring, a good San Diego pediatrician will be able to offer more specialized care.
